Specializing in the closure of residential heating oil storage tanks in the Triangle and Triad areas of North Carolina.
Contrary to popular belief, the EPA does not regulate USTs in North Carolina. And even though most home heating oil USTs are non-regulated, the regulations protecting groundwater require the tank owner to report the leakage to the NC Dept. of Environmental Quality, UST Section. Click on the buttons above to view the State's brochures for a fuller explanation of what is required (and not required) for residential USTs.
The UST Section also reviews reports and provides guidance for releases from ASTs.
UST release Action Limits: 50 ppm for GRO (gasoline range organics) / 100 ppm for DRO (diesel range organics)

Petroleum Storage Tank Removal, Soil Testing, & Cleanup
SSE strongly encourages tank owners and buyers of properties with a storage tank to call the appropriate regional office and ask about companies in the business of removing tanks and cleaning up leakage.
SSE often hand-delivers tank closure reports to the regional office to expedite the UST Section's review in time for closing on the sale of the property.
